Health and Safety
The Scholar Ship places the highest priority on the health, safety and security of its students and staff. We have established strict policies and standards to maintain a safe and secure environment both onboard the ship and in the ports we visit. The following protocols have been incorporated into our Health and Safety Plan:
- Use of a fully certified oceangoing vessel that meets or exceeds all international maritime safety regulations.
- Accessibility to a 24-hour healthcare facility staffed with medical and mental health professionals trained to work in a multicultural setting.
- Implementation of a rigid security structure to manage embarkation of participants through the use of a sophisticated personal identification card system, metal detectors, x-ray scanning equipment, and trained security professionals.
- Employment of shore-side transportation companies that meet The Scholar Ships’ strict operational criteria stipulated in the Health and Safety Plan. These include ownership of well-maintained vehicles with proven safety records from appropriate governmental agencies.
- Use of network of international security experts to insure all ports of call are deemed safe for shore-side activities undertaken by our students and staff.
All students are issued a medical insurance policy, included in the program fee, which provides worldwide coverage in the event of a medical emergency. The policy includes access to 24-hour medical evacuation services and supplemental medical insurance.
