Programs Onboard - English for Life

English for Life is an innovative course developed exclusively for The Scholar Ship. It teaches students practical English language skills using the many different places that the ship visits on its voyage.

Course outline

The course will:

  • Review and strengthen participants’ basic English language skills, particularly focusing on active communication

  • Base a lot of practice materials on the destinations that the ship visits. This way the practice is more relevant and interesting, and at the same time participants learn more about many different cities and countries

  • Allow participants to develop their language skills further during port visits, ensuring that their language practice is always practical and relevant

  • Integrate all practice so that people on the course at the same time improve their English, develop their world knowledge and gain greater inter-cultural awareness.

Course benefits:

  • Improved ability to communicate freely in English

  • Greater accuracy and better pronunciation

  • More self-confidence in the language

  • More understanding of the history and culture of the different places visited on the voyage

  • Better understanding of international affairs

  • Improved inter-cultural understanding

  • Greater ability to operate effectively across cultures
