Programs Onboard - English for World Business
English for World Business is a specialized course that provides students with key tools for their future business career so that they can work effectively in English. The course includes business-oriented content that is typically not covered in general English programs. It also covers cultural differences in the workplace, which is of great value to anyone working in today’s global workforce.
Course outline
The course will:
- review and strengthen participants’ basic English language skills, particularly focusing on active communication
- develop participants’ business English, and in particular their ability to:
- manage meetings
- negotiate
- make presentations
- write emails and reports
- socialize in a business setting
- make use of the destinations that the ship visits. This way the practice is more relevant and interesting, and at the same time participants learn more about many different cities, countries and national business practices
- allow participants to develop their language skills further during port visits, ensuring that their language practice is always practical and relevant
- integrate all practice so that people on the course at the same time improve their English, develop their world knowledge and gain greater inter-cultural awareness.

Practical details
Group size: Maximum 14
Minimum age: 18
Minimum level: Intermediate (IELTS 5.0; TOEFL 450/133/46; TOEIC 650).

Hours: The course provides an average of 20 hours per week (20 x 50 minutes), but life onboard does not follow a conventional pattern of lessons Monday – Friday and free weekends. Some weekdays may be free and some weekend days may be course days. Similarly, some port days will be formal course days, and some will be left for leisure.
Schedule: The normal hours on board are 9:00 – 12:45 or 13:45 – 17:30. Students will probably work mornings some days and afternoons on others. Hours in port will be flexible, depending on the location and the activity.
