Programs Onboard - Teaching Style

The Scholar Ship English programs are very different from conventional language programs. The curriculum incorporates listening, speaking, reading and writing exercises to develop your fluency, accuracy, grammar, and pronunciation but we practice the language in the context of all the places we visit during the voyage. This integration of language practice and real life makes the language living, real and relevant

Language development is a partnership between us and you. Our style is always practical and participatory. We are here to help you to do things in English, not just to study the language or to learn new words, useful though this may be.
In class you will be very active. Sometimes you will work together with the whole group, sometimes you will be working on your own in pairs or in threes or fours. The most important thing is for you to get as much practice as possible.

Because we want to use the opportunities given by the different countries we visit, you will find that we use research techniques, problem solving, role plays and a wide variety of different approaches. We want to challenge you, to involve you, and to engage you in every way.

Your work in the classroom is only one aspect of life onboard The Scholar Ship. Because the ship is a closed English-speaking community, your days will be filled with activities and opportunities for to use your English outside the classroom. The opportunities to practice English never end. See Campus Profile.
