Academic Field Programs
Academic field programs during port calls enable groups of students to explore overlapping social, political, environmental, and business issues inherent in a range of cultures and countries. Academic field programs are guided by local networks of academic, business, and community organizations to enrich the experience with real-world perspectives.
All students participate in an academic field program in the first port of the voyage. Students are also required to participate in three additional academic field programs over the course of the voyage. The cost of these four required academic field programs is included in the program fee.
Structure: Academic field programs commence the day after the ship arrives in port and continue for three days, allowing participating students four days to pursue community service projects, shore excursions, and independent exploration in each port region. Voyage staff and in-country facilitators accompany student groups, which are organized by academic level and learning circle.
