Environmental Science

Seventy percent of the Earth’s surface is covered by oceans and seas, and more than half the world’s human population lives within sixty kilometres of the coast. As a result, the coastal and marine environment has a high intrinsic value as a common global resource, with the most diverse and productive ecosystems on the planet. The oceans also have a fundamental role in maintaining the oxygen/carbon dioxide balance in the atmosphere, thus regulating the climate and influencing global weather patterns. With five Environmental Science programmes, a global itinerary and a repeat period of one year for scientific surveys, The Scholar Ship represents a valuable platform for understanding the physics, chemistry and biology of our planet.
